Selecting Your New Tunnelhouse
We sell Morrifield tunnelhouses, which are made in New Zealand for New Zealand conditions.
– the “A” models – e.g., the Standard 2.5mA, 4mA, 6mA and 8mA – are designed for colder parts of the country. If you’re in the south part of the South Island or on the West Coast, the A models are an appropriate option to consider.
– for all other locations where the weather is warmer, our advice is please don’t buy an “A” model. In the summer months, it will get too hot in your tunnelhouse, and your plants will suffer. The “B” models (with a back window) or “C” models (with two doors) is what you should be looking at. These provide ventilation that will make your plants much happier!
– although the screen doors are an optional item, we highly recommend them. It enables airflow through your tunnelhouse without giving access to butterflies, birds and other unwanted guests.

High Wind Zones and Extra High Wind Zones
If you live in an especially windy location, we recommend attaching your tunnelhouse to the ground.
– for high wind zones, you can ask for high wind bracing. This is an additional cost of $140.
– for extra high wind zones, 600mm warratahs plus a wind break in the face of the prevailing wind will be necessary. We can provide a quote if this is you.
